Roy's Submission

Media Coach Comments: This is a very interesting subject taken while you were traveling on a coach during your vacation. Subject selection is important and you have discovered a unique one.

Digital photography in post-production can enhance an image but the most important aspect is to know what to shoot and capture and the rest is easier to make adjustments. Well done here.

COTHP Method: Thumb (SUBJECT): Interesting. Index Finger (EXPOSURE): Properly exposed. Middle Finger (COMPOSITION) : Center as exception to the rule. Good. Ring Finger (DEPTH-OF-FIELD): Medium to Shallow. Pinkie Finger (Quality of Light): Mixed of Hard & Soft Light.  Palm (APPROACH): Low angle-Level. Back of Hand (Color/Monochrome): Color. Wrist (TECHNIQUES): Not Applicable.

Coach Suggestions: Increased the contrast and saturation of the photograph to bring out this contrasting image with emphasis on the rainbow and the colors of the signboard and green-tinted widows.

The signboard states" Hospital" and the "Rainbow" makes a metaphorical connection. It's a personal preference which I felt would bring out more meanings to an image. Let the viewers interpret your visual statement.

The Story of Roy - A Newbie Photographer's Journey.

Roy owns and runs a speciality shop on bathroom accessories and ceiling fans. Niche! Working hours are long and fixed but he has a passion to learn photography. After all the wows and oohs while watching the National Geographic channel inspires him to take up this expressive discipline.

So his journey began when he enrolled on a one-to-one customised workshop due to his busy working schedule. The first session was 2 hours to ground him with the Concept of the Hand Photography (COTHP) systematic approach with lots of shooting along the way as we did a walk-about the location. Explaining the fundamentals and shooting for experience. Next session was an hour to allow him to crystallise his learning and we took length discussions on the shots. That's was his lesson on COTHP. The free COTHP Mag inspired him further over the weeks and he took the plunge to buy a DSLR kit in replacement of his point-and-shoot. He advance further to enrol in the COTHP Certified Photographer program to master his skills-set and to gain the recognition of a COTHP Certified Photographer status and benefits. And so his tenacity continues with the submissions of his Shooting Assignments.

Below is a sample of his Shooting Assignments and the Media Coach's evaluation.

Media Coach Comments: Very good triangular composition. The focus point seems to be in the left middle bird with a medium to shallow DOF due to the long tele-photo lens range. The subject was a fleeting moment you managed to captured. However, there is slight camera shake in the shot. Do use a tripod or a faster shutter speed to avoid camera shake. And make adjustments to the exposure. COTHP Method:  Thumb (SUBJECT): Interesting. Index Finger (EXPOSURE): Properly exposed. Coach’s Suggestion: Photo enhancement like cropping tighter to eliminate distraction from the leaves and increase contrast and color saturation would accentuate the image as illustrated. Frame it and you have it.

Roy is currently on vacation. Somewhere in China. I am sure he will be shooting, shooting and shooting. Happy Shooting Roy!
